Why can't I see the current time on the screen while using the Activity app?

On the Activity measurement screen of the watch, various display items can be assigned to the upper, middle, and lower display areas. You can also immediately switch between items.
Tap the display area (top, middle, bottom) you want to display. Use ◀ and ▶ to select [Current Time / World Time]. This causes the current time to appear.
