Power Requirements

Q1
How can I charge the camera's battery?
A1

You can use either of the two following methods to charge the camera's battery.

To charge with the USB-AC adaptor (Charging time: Approximately 2 hours 40 minutes)
 1. Turn off the camera.
 2. Connect the supplied USB cable to the USB-AC adapter, and then plug in to a household power outlet.
 3. Connect the USB cable to the camera.
The back lamp should light red, indicating that charging has started.
The back lamp will go out when charging is complete.
The back lamp indicates the current charging condition as described below.

Lamp Status Description
Lit Red Charging
Flashing Red Abnormal ambient temperature,
USB-AC adaptor problem,
or battery problem
Off Charging complete

To charge using a USB connection to a computer

 1. Turn off the camera.
 2. With your computer turned on, connect the camera to it.
The camera's back lamp will light red. The back lamp will go out after charging is complete.
  - Charging time is affected by the type of computer being used and by connection conditions.
  - USB data communication may not be possible during charging, depending on the computer model being used or connection conditions.
  - Connect directly to a USB port what supplies a current of 500mA. For details about the power supply capacity of a computer's USB port, contact the manufacturer of the computer.
  - The back lamp indicates the current charging condition as described below.

Lamp Status Description
Lit Red,
(Lit/Flashing Amber)
Charging
Flashing Red Abnormal ambient temperature,
charging terminated by the timer,
or battery problem
Off, (Lit Green) Charging complete
 • The information in parentheses in the above table shows the lamp status while the camera is turned on during charging.

*1 When charging with power supplied from a computer's USB port, turning on the camera while the indicator is lit red will cause it to change to orange, which indicates USB data communication.

NOTE
- A battery that has not been used for a long time, or ambient temperature extremes can cause charging to take longer than normal.
- If charging takes longer than about five hours, a timer will terminate it automatically, even if the battery is not fully charged. This is indicated by the back lamp flashing red. If the battery has not been used for a very long time, charging may be terminated automatically and the back lamp may start flashing red after only about 60 minutes. In either case, disconnect the USB cable from the camera and then reconnect it to resume charging.

You also can use the optionally available special charger (BC-110L option) for charging.

IMPORTANT!
• Use only a specified USB-AC adapter and/or USB cable for charging. Use of a non-specified charger can result in charging problems.
• Never use the supplied power cord with any other device.
• Shooting and viewing images are not supported while charging is in progress.
Pressing [Power] while the USB-AC adaptor is connected to the camera will turn on the camera with power being supplied by the battery. Because of this, charging will stop.
