Even though I have updated my watch, the display is grayed out and inoperable except for notifications from my phone. I cannot measure my heart rate or perform activity measurements.

The watch update may not have been completed. 
Connect the watch to the app and check if an update is available. 
If the watch software update fails, try taking the steps below. 
・Stop the current update operation and update the software again.
・Turn off Wi-Fi on your smartphone. Turn it back on when the software update operation is complete).
・If the software update operation takes more than 30 minutes, press the app’s Stop button, perform the unpair operation on both the app and the watch, pair them again, and then try updating the software again. If the Stop button is disabled, exit the app and then restart it
・Turn off Bluetooth on your smartphone and then turn it on again.
If some watch modes or settings are grayed out and cannot be selected following a software update, it may mean that the software update failed. 
If this happens, update the software again from the software update guidance screen of the CASIO WATCHES phone app.
