Why are there speckles around printed figures in both the preview image and the final printing?

This phenomenon, which occurs only with Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP, is causes by the font smoothing feature of these operating systems.
You can eliminate this problem by performing either of the following procedures and then restarting Windows.
 
Windows 2000 users:
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Double-click the [Display] icon to open Display Properties.
3. Click the [Effects] tab. 
4. In the [Visual effects] group, clear the check box next to [Smooth edges of screen fonts]
5. Click [OK] to close Display Properties.
 
Windows XP users:
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Double-click the [Display] icon to open Display Properties.
3. Click the [Appearance] tab. 
4. Click [Effects]
5. Clear the check box next to [Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts]
6. Click [OK] to close Display Properties.
