Why is the aspect ratio of the projected image different from that of the computer screen image?

The signal being output from the computer may be one that is easily interpreted wrongly. On the projector's Setup Menu, change the current "Auto Adjust" setting to "2" or "1".
If this does not solve the problem, it could mean that "Full" is selected for the projector's aspect ratio setting. On the projector's Setup Menu, change the current "Aspect Ratio" setting to "Normal".
