When things don't go right...

Q1
Why does the camera or controller operation lamp fail to light or go out when I try to charge the battery?
A1
You can find out the camera's and controller's operational status by checking the color and condition of the operation lamp as described below.

1. The operation lamp does not light.
 • The USB cable is not connected correctly to the USB-AC adaptor or to the computer.
The USB cable is not connected correctly to the camera or controller.
-> 1) Unplug the USB cable from the camera and then plug it back in again.
Connect the cable so the mark on its small (micro USB) connector is facing the lens side of the camera and the monitor screen side of the controller.
        2) Make sure the camera and controller are turned off when you connect the USB cable.
Charging may not start if you connect the USB cable while power is turned on.
 • You are not using the micro USB cable that came with the camera.
-> Use the micro USB cable that came with the camera.

2. The operation lamp lights and then immediately goes out.
Charging time (the time the operation lamp remains lit) depends on the battery charge level, charging conditions, and other factors.
If the battery does not charge even though the operation lamp lights indicating that charging is being performed, it could mean there is something wrong with the battery.

3. The operation lamp is flashing red.
 • Ambient temperature or the temperature of the battery may be either too high or too low.
Unplug the USB cable from the camera and wait for a while until the camera is within the temperature range of 15°C to 35°C  (59°F to 95°F), and then try charging again.
 • A battery that has not been used for a long time, certain types of computers, and connection conditions can cause charging to take longer than normal. If charging takes longer than about five hours, a safety timer will terminate it automatically, even if the battery is not fully charged. If the battery has not been used for a very long time, charging may terminate automatically after only about 60 minutes.

 1) Using a battery that has not been used for a long time.
Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable to resume charging.
 2) Insufficient power supply when connected to computer.
The camera can be charged only via a USB2.0 standard USB port.
Connect directly to a USB port what supplies a current of 500mA.

For details about the power supply capacity of computer's USB port, contact the manufacture of the computer. Though disconnecting and then reconnecting the USB cable will resume charging, you may need to do so repeatedly if the power supply capacity of the computer is low.

Depending on the setup of your computer, you may not be able to charge the camera's battery over a USB connection. If this happens, use of the USB-AC adaptor that comes with the camera is recommended.

* If charging fails or the operation lamp of the camera continues to flash red after you take the steps described above, it could mean that the battery is defective. Contact your local Authorized CASIO Service Center.
