If I copy movie files from the camera to a DVD, will I be able to view the movies using a DVD player?

No. Because of file format differences, you will not be able to view a movie file recorded with the camera on a DVD player if you copy it from your computer to a DVD. To record camera movie files on a DVD for later viewing, you can purchase a separately available special AV cable (EMC-7A). Use the AV cable to connect the camera to an HDD recorder or DVD recorder, and then record the movies directly from camera memory.
