When things don't go right...

Q38
The back lamp of the camera fails to light or goes out when I try to charge the battery.
A38
It depends on the camera's current operational status. Check the camera's back lamp to determine the operational status as described below.

1. The back lamp does not light
The USB cable is not connected correctly to the USB-AC adaptor or to the computer.
The USB cable is not connected correctly to the camera.
Connect the cable so the mark on its small (micro USB) connector is facing the lens side of the camera.
The battery is not oriented correctly.
The Power code is not connected correctly to the USB-AC adaptor.

2. The back lamp lights and then immediately goes out.
Charging time (the time the back lamp remains lit) depends on the battery charge level, charging conditions, and other factors. Inability to charge a battery could mean that the battery is defective.

3. The back lamp is flashing red.
Ambient temperature or the temperature of the battery may be either too high or too low.
Unplug the USB cable from the camera and wait for a while until the camera is within the temperature
range of 15°C to 35°C (59°F to 95°F), and then try charging again.
A battery that has not been used for a long time, certain types of computers, and connection conditions
can cause charging to take longer than normal. If charging takes longer than about five hours, a safety
timer will terminate it automatically, even if the battery is not fully charged. If the battery has not been
used for a very long time, charging may terminate automatically after only about 60 minutes.

1) Using a battery that has not been used for a long time.
Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable to resume charging.
2) Insufficient power supply when connected to computer.
The camera can be charged only via a USB2.0 standard USB port.
Connect directly to a USB port what supplies a current of 500mA.

For details about the power supply capacity of computer's USB port, contact the manufacture of the
computer. Though disconnecting and then reconnecting the USB cable will resume charging, you may
need to do so repeatedly if the power supply capacity of the computer is low.

Depending on the setup of your computer, you may not be able to charge the camera's battery over a
USB connection. If this happens, use of the USB-AC adaptor that comes with the camera is recommended.

* If charging fails or the back lamp of the camera continues to flash red after you take
the steps described above, it could mean that the battery is defective. Contact your
local Authorized CASIO Service Center.
